Why does my combi boiler pressure keep dropping?
Your combi boiler can be losing pressure for a number of reasons. Pressure loss may be caused from a leak in the pressure relief valve, an issue in the expansion vessel, air in your system, or a leak in the heating pipework itself.
What do I do if my boiler pressure keeps dropping?
Top tip!
- Switch off and allow your boiler to cool.
- Double-check that both ends of the filling loop are securely attached.
- Open both valves, to allow cold mains water into the system (you should hear it)
- Wait for the pressure gauge to read 1.5 bar.
- Close both valves, one after the other.
Is it normal for boiler pressure to drop?
Does boiler pressure keep dropping? Your boiler losing pressure is an occurrence more natural than childbirth, and overtime (or, sometimes overnight) – they’re bound to lose some water (pressure) and require topping up (or, repressurised). So if this is your boilers first rodeo – relax.
Is it normal for boiler pressure to fluctuate?
You shouldn’t worry about fluctuations between 1 and 1.5 bar. You only need to be concerned if the pressure drops to much lower levels and needs frequently topping up ,or if pressure rises to over 2.5 bar.
How often should you need to top up boiler pressure?
The pressure in the system will usually require topping up once or twice a year. If you are having to repressurise your heating system much more frequently, please contact your installer.
How do you reset the pressure on a Worcester boiler?
External Filling Loop
- Attach the hose to each side of the valve and open the mains cold tap.
- Open the second tap which allows water in to the heating system.
- Watch the pressure rise and stop once the bar reaches just about one and turn off both taps.
Why are my radiators cold when the heating is on?
Why is one radiator cold when the heating is on? One cold radiator usually indicates that either there is air in the system or there is a stuck valve within that radiator. To check if the valve is stuck, you can remove the rotatable head on the TRV to reveal a raised pin beneath it.
What pressure should a Worcester boiler be?
To work efficiently the Worcester combi boiler needs to operate on a standard pressure, between 1/ 2 bar, 1.5 bar is also a good pressure level.
How do I increase the pressure on my combi boiler?
Open both valves to allow cold water to enter the system, keeping an eye on the pressure gauge. Close both valves when the pressure gauge reaches 1.5 bar. Remove the filling loop if it isn’t a built-in one. Turn the boiler back on and recheck the pressure.
Why does my Worcester boiler keep needing to be reset?
Continually having to reset your boiler is an indicator that the boiler definitely either needs serviced or overhauled. My advice is to reset your boiler once, or maybe even twice. Be safe, don’t try to fix it yourself, and if the problem persists, call in an experienced, professional Gas Safe registered engineer.
Why is my boiler on but no heating?
If your boiler works but the radiators are not heating up, the likely cause could be a faulty boiler pump or your central heating controls. If your boiler works but the radiators are not heating up, then the likely cause is a faulty boiler pump or your central heating controls.
