Where is TPS located * throttle body engine throttle ECU?

TPS is usually located on the throttle valve spindle so that it can directly monitor its position. The TPS sensor is a potentiometer, providing a variable resistance depending on the position of the throttle valve (and hence throttle position sensor).

What are the signs of a bad throttle position sensor?

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Throttle Position Sensor

  • Car won’t accelerate, lacks power when accelerating, or accelerates itself.
  • Engine won’t idle smoothly, idles too slowly, or stalls.
  • Car accelerates, but won’t exceed a relatively low speed, or shift up.

At idle is should be zero or a couple of degrees. Press down on the gas pedal very S-L-O-W-L-Y until the throttle is all the way open. If the TPS has a worn spot, most likely it will be between 0 and 20 percent throttle opening. Try holding the throttle between 0 and 20 percent to see if you get a steady reading.

Can I unplug my TPS sensor?

If the TPS is not adjusted correctly as evidenced by a 500rpm idle, and hesitation with initial acceleration, unplugging the TPS connector should then cause a correct idle, and a normal acceleration. Correcting the TPS then produced a correct idle, and no code.

Is there a way to test a throttle position sensor?

Turn the key ON without starting the engine, ensuring the throttle is fully closed. If the digital multimeter reads between . 2 to 1.5 volts, then the throttle position sensor is working correctly. As you open the throttle plate, the digital multimeter should increase to 5 volts.

How do you test a Polaris TPS?

The only way to test the TPS is to use the tool Polaris designed to test it, or back-probe the yellow wire at the connector with a multi-meter and watch the voltage as you run up the throttle. It should climb smoothly, not erratically. Its hard to do as the numbers on the multi-meter run up quickly.

Can I clean my TPS sensor?

Cleaning the throttle body itself can be done using carburetor fluid and a clean cloth for the removal of light sludge. During this process, the throttle position sensor should not be cleaned due to the possibility of contamination or wire damage.
