By What is the best solder to use for brass?
If you have done any electronic soldering you probably used a lead based solder. This is fine for soldering electronic components together but isn’t really strong enough, nor does it give a great bond, to copper and brass. Your best option is to use a silver solder.
Can you use a soldering iron to solder brass?
“Soft” solder is a tin-based solder. Because it melts at a low temperature, you can apply soft solder with an electric soldering iron or gun. Brass, copper, and bronze components can also be fused together using hard solders (see below).

Can I use silver solder on brass?
The amount of zinc in a metal lowers the melting point, that’s why brass melts at a lower temperature than pure copper. As you can see in the chart above, you can use any silver solder on copper or brass metal, but solder flow points vary between vendors so always check the flow points of the solders you choose to use.
Can you use Vaseline as flux?
Petroleum jelly works just as well as a store-bought flux. It will clear your metal surfaces of any oxides and will melt away with the heat. Because of this, it is commonly used by many electronics enthusiasts.
Why does my solder not stick?
A classic reason solder won’t stick to something is because you’re not getting it hot enough. My interns come to me with this problem all the time. Make sure the tip of the iron is nice and shiny. Touch some solder on it, and it should melt almost instantly.
