The Face of This Debate: Galen & Jayme

Galen fell in love with Jayme almost instantly:

“I knew Jayme was the one because of her love of the outdoors, her work with young people, her ability to remember scientific and historic facts that always escape me, her sense of humor, her ability to concoct delicious dishes without a recipe, and the importance of family in her life.”

The day they stood in front of family and friends to make a lifelong promise to one another was one of the happiest days of their lives. That day, Galen and Jayme committed to standing by each other and loving each other for the rest of their lives -- but their marriage isn’t recognized in the state they call home.

A few months ago, the protection of marriage became even more important, when they welcomed their son, Jackson. Galen and Jayme want to be able to provide Jackson with the same warm, loving, secure environment they had with their families.

That’s why Galen and Jayme are advocating for marriage equality. Rhode Island is their home, and they want their marriage to be affirmed here. They shouldn’t have to pick up their son and move away from their families -- who they care deeply about staying close to -- in order to have their love and commitment recognized.

It’s time for the Rhode Island Senate to extend the freedom to marry to couples like Galen and Jayme.
