The Face of This Debate: Christopher & Stephen

Next year, Christopher and Stephen will celebrate 20 years together. They never thought they'd see the day when their love would be recognized in their home state -- but the couple is watching as history is being made right here in Rhode Island.

When the couple met, Christopher was mourning the loss of a long-time partner for whom he had provided years of at-home care. Stephen provided Christopher with the love and support he needed to get through this painful loss, and after a year of sharing in a long-distance relationship, they moved in together in Manhattan.

Aging parents called Christopher and Stephen back to Rhode Island, and they've made the state their home since returning. They've built their lives in the Ocean State -- taking care of family, spending time with good friends, participating in church, and giving back to the community.

After nearly two decades of shared life together, Christopher and Stephen are eager to stand up in front of their family and friends and make the lifelong promise they've already been living. And as they look toward the future, they're ready for the security and protection that only marriage can provide.

On Thursday, Christopher and Stephen will be watching as our Representatives take one final vote on marriage equality. And they hope to be celebrating.
