If you needed proof that marriage supporters in the Ocean State are making a huge difference in this campaign, here it is:
Senator James Doyle -- who was previously undecided -- has announced that he will vote for marriage equality! Explaining his decision to the Providence Journal, Senator Doyle said “at the end of the day, it’s a human-rights issue.” His support comes just two days after Senator Nick Kettle, a Republican, announced that he too will vote for the freedom to marry on the Senate floor after hearing from thousands of pro-equality constituents.
But that's not all. Senator Doyle also joined with Senator Rapatikis in removing their names from Senator Ciccone's discriminatory referendum bill, which would seek to amend the state constitution to ban marriage for same-sex couples.
Across the state, supporters of the freedom to marry are speaking out, calling their legislators, and sharing their stories. And it's working.
We'll carry this incredible momentum into tomorrow's hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is one of the most important days yet for our campaign. Rhode Islanders will stand in front of the committee and explain why marriage matters to them and thousands of families in our state.
