How does electro etching work?
Electrochemical etching is an anodic dissolution process that uses electrical and chemical reactions. When the current flows between the metallic conductors immersed in an electrolyte, anodic dissolution takes place. The number of oxidized atoms is proportional to the number of applied electrons.
What is electric etching?
Electroetching is a metal etching process that involves the use of a solution of an electrolyte, an anode, and a cathode. The metal piece to be etched is connected to the positive pole of a source of direct electric current. Similarly the cation of the electrolyte should be of the same metal as well.
How long does electro etching take?
A stainless steel plate or plate of an identical metal – which remains untouched – about the same size as the plate to be etched is connected to the negative terminal and the unit is turned on. At a current of around 1A and 9 Volts, the etching will be substantial in about 20 minutes.
What is needed for electro etching?
Water. Battery charger or charged car battery (or other similar DC power supply of 5 to 10 amps or more) Wires to connect the power supply to the piece of metal. Sacrificial piece of metal (preferably stainless steel, but any metal will work)
Can you etch steel with vinegar?
